About the Program
Parents Go First is a 3-month parent coaching and education program delivered by Angela Tieman, Paediatric Occupational Therapist and Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner from Sensory Health Matters.
Parents Go First was created because real change for children begins with the adults who care for them. When parents feel calm, supported and steady in their own nervous system, they become the foundation their child can grow from.
The program supports parents and caregivers to better understand their own nervous system and sensory needs, build confidence in co-regulation, and feel more grounded and supported in everyday family life. Parents learn practical strategies they can use at home to support connection, calm, and regulation.
Scope of Service
This is a parent-focused coaching and education program informed by occupational therapy practice, sensory integration, attachment theory, and nervous system science. It is delivered via tele-health and works with adults only. It does not provide direct support for your child or children.
The program is designed for learning, reflection, and practical support. It is not a crisis service and does not replace psychological or psychiatric care, diagnostic assessments, emergency mental health services, or legal or court-mandated interventions. Where needs fall outside the scope of the program, referrals may be recommended.
Eligibility and Exclusions
This program is not offered to families who are currently involved in family court proceedings, custody or parenting disputes, or court-ordered remediation, reunification, or assessment processes.
We also recognise that separation can be a time of very high stress and big change for both parents and children. When there is uncertainty, instability, or legal pressure in the home, the nervous system is already carrying a heavy load. This program is about building safety, capacity and steady foundations. For many families in the middle of separation or legal processes, this is simply not the right timing.
By enrolling, you confirm that your family is not currently involved in the above processes and agree to inform Sensory Health Matters immediately if circumstances change during the program.
If circumstances change and the program is no longer appropriate, Sensory Health Matters reserves the right to pause or discontinue services in a way that prioritises ethical practice, safety, and professional boundaries.
Program Delivery
Parents Go First is delivered through four main supports: individual coaching, pre-recorded education modules, reflective exercises, and informal messaging support between sessions.
The program includes individual parent coaching sessions, delivered via tele-health. Alongside your sessions, you will have access to a series of pre-recorded education modules covering the core program content, which you can watch in your own time and return to whenever you need.
Between sessions, you will be invited to participate in reflective exercises and simple, practical tasks designed to fit within your everyday routines. The intention is not to overwhelm you with more to do, but to build your awareness and capacity in a way that feels manageable and realistic for family life. Informal messaging support can be accessed via the Signal app between sessions, during business hours, Monday to Friday.
Optional opportunities for group connection or shared learning may be offered. These are not guaranteed and are not a core component of the program.
Program Changes
Parents Go First is a living program that evolves over time to reflect best practice, family needs, parent feedback, and improvements in learning and delivery.
Sensory Health Matters reserves the right to make reasonable changes to program content, resources, session structure, delivery format, or learning platforms where needed to enhance the quality of the program or respond to practical or professional requirements.
Any changes will maintain the core purpose and intent of the program. Participants will be informed of any significant changes in a timely manner.
Rescheduling and Cancellations
Make-up sessions are not offered for sessions that are not attended or cancelled with late notice. If this happens, support can be accessed through informal messaging, program resources and your next scheduled session.
Life with kids can be unpredictable and plans sometimes change. If you need to reschedule a session, please provide a minimum of 48 hours notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice are considered late notice cancellations, and a replacement session cannot be offered.
Rescheduled sessions depend on the occupational therapists availability and cannot be guaranteed, although every effort will be made to find another time. All rescheduled sessions must take place within the 3 month coaching period. If you know ahead of time that you may need extra flexibility, please discuss this prior to your program starting.
Fees and Payment
There are two payment options:
1. Upfront payment
2. Three monthly instalments
The program is GST exempt.
Program fees, including any additional inclusions are outlined in the clients invoice or individual payment summary provided prior to enrolment.
This program supports participation by one or both parents or caregivers, depending on the family’s situation.
Timing of payment: Upfront payment is due upon enrolment. For instalments, the first monthly payment is due upon enrolment, with remaining instalments billed monthly from the date the program commences. Ongoing participation is dependent on payments being made as scheduled.
Places are limited: If there is no current capacity to commence, or if you are not yet ready to begin, you may secure a place in the program with a $600 deposit. This deposit reserves a limited place and is non-refundable. If the program does not commence within three months, the deposit will be forfeited.
Payment Default
By enrolling in the program, you agree to pay all fees in full in accordance with the selected payment plan.
If a scheduled payment is missed or declined, you will be notified and given seven days to bring your account up to date. Access to sessions, recordings, and program materials may be paused until payment is received.
If payment remains outstanding after fourteen days, Sensory Health Matters reserves the right to suspend or terminate participation in the program. Outstanding fees remain payable in full.
Failure to complete the program, change or mind, or missed sessions does not cancel payment obligations.
Session Recordings
Individual sessions within Parents Go First can be video recorded on request. This can be helpful when two parents or caregivers are enrolled and one is unable to attend a live session, as the recording can be shared with the absent parent. All families receive session notes to refer back to, whether or not a session is recorded. Recordings are for private viewing only and must not be downloaded, shared, or distributed. Access to all recordings will be removed at the conclusion of the program.
Storage, Privacy, and Consent
Recordings are stored securely in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Sensory Health Matters Privacy Policy.
By enrolling, you consent to the recording of sessions and the temporary sharing of recordings with any other enrolled person in your family where applicable.
Personal information is collected, stored, and used only for service delivery and business operations. Information is kept confidential unless disclosure is required by law or there are safety concerns. Please contact Sensory Health Matters for our full Privacy Policy.
